We’ve been hearing rumors that the ancient temple of Baalshamin, a temple to Baal at the ancient site of Palmyra in Syria, was blown up by ISIS. Now there’s proof.

These photos were released by ISIS.

The temple was completed in 32 AD. It was converted to a mosque in the 12th century. Its destruction has been called a war crime by UNESCO.

The destruction follows the torture and beheading of Palmyra’s chief archaeologist and the bulldozing of Mar Elian monastery.
